'Illumination' was commissioned by the State Library of Queensland to commemorate the opening of the new building at South Bank, Brisbane, on November 24, 2006 for the State Library's of Queensland's music collection.
Australian composer and conductor, Sean O'Boyle, has conducted recordings and concerts with many leading Australian orchestras from Adelaide, Queensland, West Australia, Tasmanian, and Victoria. His compositions have been performed by all the major Australian orchestras and by North American orchestras including the Dallas, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. His compositions have also been performed for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, in 2002. Sean O'Boyle composed the ABC's Olympic theme for the 2000 Olympic Games, which also featured in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Having written and produced music for over 60 CDs, Sean O'Boyle has a keen interest in indigenous music: he produced 'The Gulf Song' in a collaborative performance with many Australian indigenous tribes.
Having received several nominations for an ARIA Award, Sean O'Boyle has worked on a number of orchestral projects, and festival and music direction. Major events include Warner Bros Movie World (music director 1993-97), Encore! (Townsville), Qld Biennial Festival of Music, Brisbane Riverfestival - Riversymphony & Riversymposium (1999,2000,2001 & 2004) , Centenary of Federation (Townsville), and Cloudland (Queensland Ballet) Brisbane Festival.
