Biographical notes:

James H. Knight was a well known airmail pilot during the first half of the twentieth century. Born in Buchanan, Michigan in 1892, Knight flew for the U.S. Air Mail Service from 1919 to 1927, serving assignments in College Park, Maryland, Chicago, Illinois, Cleveland, Ohio, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Omaha, Nebraska. On a 1920 flight between Cleveland and Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, Knight set an airmail flight record by flying 215 miles in 83 minutes. In 1921, he was the pilot on the first ever airmail night flight, flying from Omaha to Chicago. From 1927 to 1937, Knight served as an airline pilot for United Airlines. James H. Knight passed away in 1945.
