Conger, Edwin H. (Edwin Hurd), 1843-1907
Edwin Conger purchased a farm in Madison County, Iowa in 1868. In 1874 he moved to Dexter, Iowa (Dallas County) to begin a career in banking. He served in several elected offices including Dallas County treasurer and Iowa state treasurer. President Harrison appointed him to the post of Minister to Brazil. President McKinley reappointed him to this position and then transferred him to the U.S. delegation to China in 1898. Conger achieved prominence during the Chinese Box rebellion of 1900.
