Standish Hayes O'Grady
Standish Hayes O'Grady (1832-1915), scholar and antiquarian, was born at Castleconnel, Co. Limerick, and educated at Rugby and Trinity College Dublin. Although trained as an civil engineer, he worked on compiling a catalogue of the Irish manuscripts in the British Museum, which was completed after his death by Robert Fowler and published in 1926. O'Grady also translated heroic stories from the Gaelic. His own works included Silva Gadelica (1892), a collection of old Irish tales.
