In the early 1930s, border radio began broadcasting from transmitters in Mexico into the United States.
Many of these AM radio stations, called "border blasters," held studios in American towns. The first known station to go on the air was XED at Reynosa in 1930. Durell M. Roth is a border radio historian in Austin, TX.
