Although the location of "Haunted Castle, S.C." is unclear, the 1860 U.S. Census lists E.E. Boyd as a 32-year-old female head of household living at Saluda Regiment, Edgefield District, S.C., West Creek P.O., with an 11-year-old daughter, J.R. Boyd. The 1870 census lists Elizabeth Boyd as a 42-year-old female head of household living at Saluda, Edgefield District, S.C., Batesville P.O.
