Charleston Port Society for the Promotion of the Gospel among Seamen.
Charleston missionary society established in 1823 to support evangelical work among seamen. Chaplains for the Society during the bulk years of the records and their years of service include Joseph Brown (1823-1832), John A. Mitchell (1833-1836), and William Black Yates (1836-1882).
