Pennsylvania. Constitutional Convention (1776)
Elected July 8, the day the Declaration was read in public, the convention first met on July 15, approved the Declaration, removed the governor, and elected a new Council of Safety to exercise interim executive powers while it framed a new constitution. It disbanded when the constitution was adopted on Sept. 28.
