Barth, Joseph

Joseph Nicholas Barth (1906-1988) was born in Salina, Kansas. He attended a number of schools, including Creighton University and Wesleyan University. In 1934 he married Ramona Sawyer and they had five children. He received a PhB in 1935 from the University of Chicago and a BD from Meadville Theological School, which in 1956 also granted him a DD. Barth had a short academic career, teaching at the University of Puerto Rico. He served as pastor for three congregations in Massachusetts and Florida. He was also a trustee of the Meadville Theological School, chairman of the Interracial Committee of the Boston Council of Churches, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Boston Center for Adult Education . He wrote articles for several journals and published a book entitled The Art of Staying Sane, which was published by the Beacon Hill Press.
