Dunkin, Paul Shaner, 1905-1975

Dunkin received both his Ph.D. in Classics and B.S. in Library Science from the University of Illinois. He worked at the Folger Shakespeare Library from 1937 to 1959, becoming chief of technical services in 1950. He joined the faculty of Graduate School of Library Service at Rutgers University in 1959 and taught there until his retirement in 1971. Dunkin wrote many papers on cataloging and classification, as well as several books including How to Catalog a Rare Book (1951, 1973) and Bibliography: Tiger or Fat Cat (1975). He was also an active member of the American Library Association, serving as assistant editor and eventually editor of ALA’s Library Resources and Technical Services, as well as serving on the ALA Council and many other committees.
