Brown, Winthrop G. (Winthrop Gilman), 1907-1987
Winthrop G. Brown was born in 1907. He served in the following capacities: executive officer, Harriman Mission, U.S. Embassy, London, 1941 to 1943; U.S. Lend-Lease Mission to India, 1943; executive officer, Mission for Economic Affairs, U.S. Embassy, London, 1943 to 1945; chief, Division of Commercial Policy, U.S. Dept. of State, Washington, 1945 to 1948; acting director, Office of International Trade Policy, 1947 to 1948, director, 1948 to 1950; director, Office of International Materials Policy, 1950 to 1952; and deputy to minister for economic affairs, U.S. Embassy, London, 1952 to 1955. In addition to other posts subsequent to the Truman presidency, Brown served as U.S. Ambassador to Laos, 1960 to 1962, and U.S. Ambassador to Korea, 1964 to 1967. Brown died in 1987.
