Armstrong, Martin, 1882-1974

Martin Donisthorpe Armstrong (1882-1974), was a prolific poet, novelist, and critic. His first collection of poetry, Exodus and Other Poems, was published in 1912. He enlisted to serve in the first World War and served as a private in the Artists' Rifles, obtained a commission in 1915 to the 8th (Middlesex) regiment, and in 1917 was sent to the French front, where he remained until the armistice. After his return to England he resumed his literary career. Armstrong died at his home in Sutton, near Pulborough, Sussex, on 24 February 1974.
