Smith, Harlan J.
Dr. Smith earned his undergraduate degree in physics and graduate degree in astronomy both from Harvard University. In 1953, while finishing his thesis on short-period cluster-type varible stars, he began teaching at Yale. Ten years later, while an Associate Professor at Yale, Smith was offered the opportunity of serving as Professor and Chairman of the Dept. of Astronomy at The University of Texas and Director of McDonald Observatory.
