Child Day Care Planning Project (Cleveland, Ohio)

Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, Ohio child day care planning project formed in 1983 to design a coordinated child care system for services particularly to low-to-moderate income families, and to explore new sources of funds for additional day care services. The project grew out of the Child Care Policy Review Project of the Federation for Community Planning, formed ca. 1982 and funded in part by the George Gund Foundation. The Child Day Care Planning Project (CDCPP) was also sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Welfare Dept., the Cuyahoga County Commissioners, and others. It consisted of an advisory committee and a steering committee, with a project sub-committee implementing the steering committee's recommendations. The Federation for Community Planning was the fiscal and administrative agent for the CDCPP, which was conducted in four phases: the identification of child care issues, the issuance of reports, plans and recommendations, and final implementation leading to the formation of Starting Point, the agency created by the project to carry out a local day care program.
