Chesnut, V.K. (Victor King), 1867-1938
Victor King Chesnut was born in Nevada City, California on June 28, 1867. He attended high school in Oakland, California and college at the University of California, the University of Chicago, and George Washington University specializing in chemistry and botany. He worked for the Bureau of Plant Industry, U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1894-1904, and as a professor of chemistry and geology at Montana Agricultural College (Montana State University) from 1904-1907. Following his work in Montana Chesnut relocated to Washington, DC where he finished his career working in a variety of positions for the USDA. He retired in 1933 and died in August, 1938.
