Cromartie, Doris M., 1922-2001

Doris M. Cromartie, a resident of Charlotte, N.C., became involved in Democratic Party activities during the mid-1950s. She led in the organization of Democratic Women's Clubs in North Carolina and served as vice chairperson of the Mecklenburg County Democratic Committee (1958) and vice chairperson of the N.C. Democratic Executive Committee (1960-1963). She was deeply involved in the 1960 election campaign in the state, serving as a principal supporter of Terry Sanford for governor. In 1964 Mrs. Cromartie moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she became a case worker for the Regional Office of the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (1966-1973).
