Hustvedt, Olaf M. (Olaf Mandt), 1886-1978

Vice Admiral Olaf Hustvedt (USNA Class of 1909), during a thirty six year career, distinguished himself in Naval Ordnance and as battleship commander. He served in World War I and World War II, headed the Experimental Section in the Bureau of Ordnance, served as Production Chief of the Naval Gun Factory, commanded the USS DETROIT, the USS NORTH CAROLINA, Commander Battleships, Atlantic Fleet, and Battleship Division 7.

Olaf Mandt Hustvedt was born June 23, 1886, in Chicago, Ill. He served as Commander of Battleships, Atlantic Fleet, from May 1943 to December 1944, and retired as Vice Admiral in March 1945. Hustvedt died December 22, 1978.
