University Congregation Pacific Lutheran University (Tacoma, Wash.)

On September 1, 1955, the student congregation was established at Pacific Lutheran University by the Board of Regents for the purpose of providing a ministry to the student body. Students held associate membership in the congregation. A full-time pastor, Rev. Robert Lugness, was called, and he took over in that year. Worship services were initially held in Eastvold Auditorium, but in recent years have been moved to Christ Knutzen Hall in the University Center. The evening devotions and some other services are held in the Tower Chapel of the Eastvold Building. The student congregation is led by students under their own elected council. Services are held every Sunday of the regular academic year. The congregation has organizations, retreats, service groups, campus devotions, mission organizations, and Sunday evening fellowships. It has two full-time pastors employed by the University.
