State Library of Ohio

During the summer of 1917, the Ohio Board of Library Commissioners conducted a summer library school. Housed at the Ohio State University Library and directed by the State Department of Library Organization, the library school provided tuition-free training for the staff of smaller libraries who did not have formal education in library science. A diverse group of students from every corner of Ohio participated in the 1917 program. Though a second library school was planned for the summer of 1918, it was cancelled due to the country's involvement in World War I.
