Paducah Public Library (Paducah, Ky.)

The donation of $35,000 for a public library in Paducah from industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie came as a direct result of the efforts of the Reverend G. W. Perryman, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Paducah. The Paducah City Council agreed to Carnegie's stipulation that they must provide ten percent of that sum annually for the maintenance of the library, and they acquired land for the building in 1901. The library opened in 1902 as the Public Library of Paducah, and was later called the Carnegie Public Library. The original library building burned in the 1960s.

From the description of Paducah Public Library documents and Paducah papers, 1901-1913. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 191916688
