Bickley, William E. (William Elbert), 1914-2010

William Elbert Bickley was a zoologist, entomologist (specializing in mosquitoes), and professor of entomology at the University of Maryland from 1949 to 1978. Bickley was born on 20 January 1914 in Knoxville, Tennesse. He received a bachelor's degree in agriculture from University of Tennessee in 1934, and later received master's and doctoral degrees from University of Maryland. During World War II, he worked to control malaria as a captain in the U.S. Public Health Service. Later in life, he lived in Silver Spring, Maryland. He died on 2 August 2010 in Annapolis, Maryland.
