Minnesota. Dept. of Highways.

The Minnesota Legislature created the Department of Highways in 1917 to oversee the construction of Minnesota highways. The basic highway plan for Minnesota was endorsed by the Legislature in the early 1920s, with the creation of a system of 70 trunk highways. In 1976, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) was created by the Legislature and assumed the responsibilities previously held by the Department of Highways.
