William Bingham was born on April 8, 1752 in Philadelphia.
He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, class of 1768 and went on to become a founder and director of the Pennsylvania Bank (later known as the Bank of North America). Bingham was also a trustee of Dickinson College and president of the Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike Company. He served in the Pennsylvania Assembly, and was a United States Senator from 1795 to 1801. He owned land in Maine, New York, and Pennsylvania. Bingham died February 6, 1804 in Bath, England. Thomas Mifflin was born in Philadelphia in 1744. He was a member of the first Congress in 1774, was appointed Quartermaster General of the Continental Army in August, 1775, and was also the first governor of Pennsylvania. Mifflin was a member of the constitutional convention and a signee of the United States Constitution. He died at Lancaster, January 20, 1800.
