Brooks, Donald
Brooks was born in 1928 in New York City. He attended the Fine Arts School of Syracuse University and Parsons School of Design. After working several years on Seventh Avenue, he was made chief designer at Townley Frocks, Inc., following Claire McCardell in that same position. In 1961 he began designing custom-made clothing, as well as costumes for theatre and film productions. In 1962 he left Townley and opened up Donald Brooks, Inc. in partnership with Ben Shaw. Brooks also served as a design consultant and lecturer at Parsons School of Design.
