Heard, Elizabeth, 1802-1865.
Elizabeth Ann Farley married George Washington Heard, both of Ipswich, Mass., in 1823. They had four sons, John, Augustine, George Washington, Jr. (later George Farley), and Albert Farley Heard. George Washington Heard's brother, Augustine Heard was head partner of the China trading firm Augustine Heard & Company, founded in 1840. All four Heard sons worked for their uncle's firm, which had offices in Canton, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Augustine Heard & Co. was one of the largest and most prosperous merchant firms in China during the 19th century.
