Hartnell, Norman, 1901-1979

Norman Hartnell was a leading British fashion designer in the 20th century, best known for his work for the ladies of the British royal family. He is widely known for the wedding dress of Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and the coronation gown of Elizabeth II in 1953. He was appointed as the royal dressmaker for Queen Elizabeth, wife of George VI, and Queen Elizabeth II. In addition to designing dresses for high society, he designed costumes for theater and film.
