Green, Al, 1947-
Alexander N. Green (born September 1, 1947) is an American lawyer and politician. Green has served in Congress as the Representative for Texas's 9th congressional district since 2005. Green is a member of the Democratic Party.
Green was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended Florida A&M University and Tuskegee University. He received a Juris Doctor degree in 1974 from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University. After law school, Green co-founded and co-managed the law firm of Green, Wilson, Dewberry, and Fitch. In 1977, he was appointed Justice of the Peace in Harris County, Texas, where he served for 26 years before retiring in 2004. Green ran for mayor of Houston in 1981, finishing fifth in the Democratic primary. For approximately ten years, Green served as president of the Houston Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, helping the organization to grow to unprecedented heights during that time.
