Sands, Dorothy, 1893-1980
Dorothy Sands (1893-1950), a stage actress for nearly 50 years and an accomplished diseuse and mimic, died last Thursday at a nursing home in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. She was 87 years old and had been a resident of Manhattan.
Made Broadway debut in Catskill Dutch (1924), followed by Little Clay Cart, Exiles, The Critic, Grand Street Follies, The Dybbuk, The Apothocary, The Seagull, Jeannie, Misalliance, Quadrille, Mary Stuart, My Fair Lady and Bell Book and Candle; had 2 one-woman shows, Styles in Acting and Our Stage and Stars. Received Tony Award for her teaching of classic acting at the American Theatre Wing (1959).
