Townsend, E. D. (Edward Davis), 1817-1893
Townsend was Assistant Adjutant General during the Civil War. He was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy (1837) and served in the Florida War as a Lt. Col. In 1861 he was promoted to Colonel. From Nov. 1861 to March 1862 he served in the Adj. Gen.'s Office. He was promoted to Acting Adj. Gen. of the Army on March 23, 1862. He retired in 1880.
