Lamarr, Hedy, 1913-2000

Hedy Lamarr (b. Nov. 9, 1914, Vienna, Austria-Hungary-d. Jan. 19, 2000, Casselberry, FL) was a successful screen actress. She is known for her work with MGM in successful movies such as Boom Town (1940), Come Live with Me (1941), Ziegfeld Girl (1941), Her Highness and the Bellboy (1945). Her best known role was in Cecil B. Demille's Samson and Delilah (1950). Lamarr was also a successful inventor; during World War II she and composer George Antheil developed a radio guidance system for torpedoes. It was not used by the US Navy until after the war but the techniques they patented were incorporated into more modern technologies.
