Katzell, Raymond A., 1919-
Raymond A. Katzell was born March 16, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York. Katzell attended New York University for his bachelors (1939), masters (1941), and Ph.D. (1943) degrees. Upon graduation, Katzell took a job in the Adjutant General's Office to work on training and placement of army personnel. Katzell then moved into the private consulting field from 1951-57 working as a vice-president for Richardson, Bellows, and Henry. He also took academic positions at the University of Tennessee (1945-48), Syracuse University (1948-1951), and New York University (1957-1984).
Upon retirement, Katzell became professor emeritus. Katzell's research and writing would make him a leader in the I/O field. He published over 50 research articles on topics such as job productivity and satisfaction. His work became the foundation for the 1975 book Work, Productivity, and Job Satisfaction and the 1990 book Work Motivation: Theory and Practice.
