Carrillo, Lilia, 1930-1974

Lilia Carrillo (b. Nov. 2, 1930, Mexico City-d. June 6, 1974, Mexico City) was a Mexican painter from the Generación de la Ruptura. Her parents were General Francisco Carrillo and Socorro García. Her mother was good friends with artists and hired Manuel Rodríguez Lozano to teach Lilia art. She attended Escuela Nacional de Pintura and studied with Agustín Lazo, Carlos Orozco Romero, and Antonio M. Ruíz. With her first husband, Ricardo Guerra, Carrillo traveled to Paris in 1953 and attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. In 1960 she married Mexican abstract artist Manuel Felguérez in Washington, DC. Her work was exhibited all over the world.
