Spellman, Gladys Noon, 1918-1988

Gladys Noon Spellman (b. March 1, 1918, New York City, NY–d. June 19, 1988, Rockville, MD) graduated from the George Washington University (Washington, D.C.). She taught in Prince George's County, MD schools before entering politics. Spellman was appointed by Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson to the Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations in 1967 before serving in Congress (1975-1981) for Maryland's 5th district. After her death the Baltimore–Washington Parkway, a scenic north-south highway in Maryland, was dedicated to Spellman.
