Main, Idabelle Lewis, 1887-1969
American Idabelle Main was a Christian missionary in China from 1909-1941 and 1946-1949. She served as a teacher, administrator, and editor in Tientsin (Tianjin), Shanghai, and Foochow (Fuzhou). She was assigned by the Women's Society of Christian Services of the Methodist Church to teach at the Keene School in Tientsin (Tianjin) in 1909. In 1921 she was appointed president of Hwanan College in Foochow (Fuzhou), a position she held until 1926 when she returned to Tientsin (Tianjin) to serve as editor of the mission paper.
