Association of Literary Magazines of America.
ALMA was formed at a meeting in St. Paul, Minnesota, on November 10 and 11, 1961, sponsored by The Carleton Miscellany. Editors of nineteen literary magazines were present. Its primary purpose was to find means of increasing the usefulness and the prestige of small literary magazines in the United States and Canada. The membership later increased to thirty-six magazines. The first permanent Executive Board was composed of Reed Whittemore, Henry Rago, and Robert Bly.
