Crawford, William, editorial cartoonist.

American political cartoonist, 1913-1982. A political liberal who at one time was considered America's most widely circulated cartoonist. The National Cartoonists' Society awarded him the best editorial cartoonist award in 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1966, and the Silver T-Square award for overall service in 1973. During his career he worked for the Washington Post, Washington Daily News, Newark (N.J.) Evening News, a position held for over two decades, and the Newspaper Enterprise Association, through which Crawford's cartoons were distributed to more than 700 daily newspapers. Also a sculptor and illustrator, with exhibitions abroad and contributions to many national magazines.
