Harrais, Margaret Keenan, 1872-1964.
Margaret Keenan was born in Batesville, Ohio, in 1872. She came to Alaska in 1914 to assume a post as principal of the Skagway schools, a post she held until 1916. She then accepted the post of superintendent of schools in Fairbanks, which she held until 1918. In 1920, Keenan married Martin Harrais, a miner. In 1924, she joined her husband in McCarthy, Alaska, where she worked as a teacher. After the death of her husband, she became U.S. Commissioner and ex-officio probate judge in Valdez, Alaska (1937). She died in Valdez on April 26, 1964.
