Huson, Nelson G., 1842-1865.
Nelson G. Huson, Union soldier, was born in Starkey, NY in 1842. By the outbreak of the Civil War the family had moved to Wauconda, Lake Co., Ill. In summer of 1862, Huson, a 19 year old farmer, enlisted in the Co. B of 96th Regiment of Illinois Infantry and was detailed as a drummer. He fought in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia, and took part in the operations in Tennessee -- Franklin, Brentwood, Triun, Wartrace, Estill Springs, etc., Chattanooga Campaign, and Atlanta Campaign. In Sept. 1864 he was detailed as a nurse in Division Hospital near Atlanta. In the end of 1864 he was taken sick and sent to hospital in Columbia, Tenn. He died there on Jan. 4, 1865.
