Wilmington Marble and Granite Works.

The Marble and Granite Works, located at Tenth and Tatnall Sts., Wilmington, De., was founded in 1848 by Charles H. Smith. By 1880, the firm employed 15 people. In 1861, the Delaware Steam Marble and Granite works was started. It had three locations in Wilmington, including one run by L.W. Megowen at 233 Shipley St. It is likely that these two firms merged to form the Wilmington Marble and Granite Works. Bills from the 1890s indicate that Leslie W. Megowen operated from the Tenth and Tatnall site.

Megowen's family resided near the business operation. He had relatives that lived on Market St. as well as a sister, Maggie, who married William S. Skinner and resided in Lewisburg, Pa.
