Die Missions Stunde began as a publication devoted to sharing news of foreign mission work and was published by the North Dakota Conference of the Dakota District, Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Iowa and Other States (Iowa Synod). It was a German-language publication published monthly in Waverly, Iowa, with its first issue appearing in January 1913. With the June 1914 issue, responsibility for the magazine's publishing transferred from the North Dakota Conference to selected pastors of the Iowa Synod. This remained the arrangement until the September 1916 issue when responsibility for the magazine was transferred to the newly-created Mission Auxiliary. In 1920 the Mission Auxiliary began publishing the magazine in conjunction with the Iowa Synod's Board of Foreign Missions. The Mission Auxiliary moved the publishing of the magazine to Wartburg Publishing House, 2048 Calumet Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, in 1922.
