Stanton, Edgar Williams, 1850-1920

Faculty member, administrator, and alumnus (1872) of Iowa State University. Born in 1850 in Waymart, Penn.; educated at Waymart Normal Institute and Delaware Literary Institute; member of first graduating class of Iowa Agricultural College in 1869. Elected member of faculty upon graduation, serving Iowa State with distinction until his death in 1920. During his fifty years of residence on campus, he filled the positions of student, Economics Dept. Chair, Head and Professor of the Dept. of Mathematics, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Dean of the Junior College, Vice-President, and four times Acting President. Largely responsible for organizing the Iowa State Alumni Association in 1878. Carillon in campanile on campus named in his honor.
