Missionary, Soviet immigrant; born April 18, 1945 in Moscow; officially designated a Soviet Jew, although he considered himself an atheist; received B.A. in Russian language and literature at Moscow University; applied for permission to leave Russia, which was granted in 1976, based on his Jewish family background; converted before leaving Moscow and attended Moscow Baptist Church; came to the United States, 1977; studied in Advanced Studies Program at Moody Bible Institute; served as missionary with Slavic Gospel Association; started weekly 30-minute radio program aimed at reaching atheists in the Soviet Union, 1985; attended Wheaton Graduate School, 1985.
