Veatch, James Clifford, 1819-1895
A native and resident of Spencer County, Ind., James Clifford Veatch was a farmer, lawyer, local politician, and member of the Indiana State Legislature before serving as an officer with the 25th Indiana Regiment in the Civil War. He served with the Army of the Tennessee, with William T. Sherman, and the Department of the Gulf. By 1868 he resumed his legal practice, served as collector of internal revenue, and was a presidential elector in 1884. Afterwards he retired, but maintained his political and war correspondence.
