New Orleans (La.). Dept. of Public Property.
Under the city's 1912 charter there was a Commissioner (one of five) of the Dept. of Public Property. He & his agency were responsible for streets & alleys, parks & playgrounds, public buildings, public baths, & all other public property. The Dept. assumed the tasks formerly assigned to the Depts. of Public Works and Police & Public Buildings & to the City Engineer (the earlier entities continued as divisions within the new Dept.). In 1948 the Dept. was divided into four new agencies, the Depts. of Public Streets, Public Sanitation, Public Buildings & Parks, and Institutions & Public Health (the change went into effect in 1950).
From the description of Records of the Commissioner of Public Property, 1912-1947 1925-1929. (New Orleans Public Library). WorldCat record id: 29712625
