Murray, Joseph E., 1919-2012
Joseph E. Murray, plastic surgeon, B.A Holy Cross College, 1940 and M.D. Harvard, 1943. Professor of Surgery Harvard Medical School, Chief of Plastic Surgery Brigham Hospital and Children's Hospital. Received the Nobel Prize in Medicine, 1990 for performing the world's first human kidney transplant in 1954. Murray conducted research on immunosuppression and developed techniques in cranio-facial surgery.
