Bennett, Caleb P., 1758-1836
American soldier, politician, Quaker, from Wilmington, Del.; b. in Pennsylvania; moved to Wilmington in 1761; during the Revolutionary War he attained the rank of captain in the Delaware Regiment; after the war became a businessman in Wilmington and New Castle, Del.; served as captain of artillery and commander of the town of New Castle during the War of 1812; in 1832, he was elected governor of Delaware and died while in office.
