Toepperwein, Gottlieb Christian Gottfried Daniel, b. 1767

Born in Halberstadt, Germany, Gottlieb Christian Gottfried Daniel Toepperwein (b. 1767) was the son of Paul Siegmund Toepperwein and Johanna Catharina Elizabeth Hanisch. Following his father’s death when Toepperwein was three years old, his mother married Toepperwein’s stepfather Friedrich Rühland. In 1782, he finished his education and traveled abroad until he entered the 8th Infantry Regiment of Von Hago’s company in the Hannover service. After holding several other positions in the Prussian army, including service in the Royal Infantry Regiment of the Duke of Braunschweig for nearly twenty years, Toepperwein worked as a tax assessor in Warsleben. He married Catharine Elizabeth Finck (1771-1831) of Emersleben, with whom he had ten children. One of his sons, Lucien Ferdinand (b. 1810), immigrated to Texas in 1850 with his wife Marie Elizabeth Leiclich, settling in Fredericksburg.
