Lane, Pinkie Gordon

Pinkie Gordon Lane was born 13 January 1923 in Philadelphia, Penn. In 1945 she entered Spelman College in Atlanta, Ga. where she earned a bachelor's degree in English and art. In 1956 she received her master's degree in English from Atlanta University, and later accepted a position as instructor of English at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., where she remained and served as Director of the English Department from 1974 until her retirement in 1986. Following retirement, she became active in literary organizations, focusing her attention on African American poets, poetry, and social issues.

Lane's literary career consists of published poems in literary journals, 5 volumes of published poetry, and acting editor or contributing editor for various anthologies and periodicals.
