Violoncellist, teacher, and musicologist, born in Milan, Italy; performed as soloist and with the Quartetto di Roma, the Mannes-Gimpel-Silva Trio, and other chamber music groups; taught at the Eastman School of Music, Julliard School of Music, Mannes College of Music, Peabody Conservatory, Hartt College of Music, and Yale University.
