Forstall, Armand W., 1859-1948.
Armand W. Forstall was born in France on July 5, 1859 and entered the Society of Jesus on Dec. 30, 1878. Following studies at Amiens and Douai, he immigrated to the United States and In 1885 began teaching chemistry and physics at the newly established College of the Sacred Heart in Morrison, Colo. In 1891 he began his studies at Woodstock College of Maryland and in 1892 or 3 was ordained to the priesthood. After teaching at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., and the College of the Holy Cross In Worcester, Mass., Fr. Forstall rejoined the faculty of Sacred Heart College (now Regis University, Denver) in 1905. He installed the first seismograph in Colorado at the college in 1909 and directed its seismograph observatory until his death in 1948. However, his principal subject of interest remained ore analysis, which brought him into contact with the foremost Colorado miners, including Charles Poulot, discoverer of carnotite. In 1935 Fr. Forstall was awarded an honorary doctor of science degree by the University of Denver and in 1936 was made 'Officier d'AcadeĢmie' by the French Ministry of Education for his work as teacher and scholar. He died at Denver on April 21, 1948.
